Privacy Choices in Facebook or All Social Software in General

Recently, some private information about myself that I had posted on Facebook was spotted by someone who was not in my friends' list(someone I knew but not too close to). This was something I did not want to to happen as there was a chance of this news reaching some unintended people close to me but it happened. I had to answer some unwanted questions and it was very annoying. Straight away, I changed my privacy settings to be viewable only by friends. This also raised the question whether I should have relatives(except for immediate ones like parents and siblings) among the friends. In this case, it involved a cousin.
The thing is, in the midst of all the issues about privacy in Facebook, we must be responsible with our actions in it too. The situation I was in could have been avoided if I had set my profile to be viewable only by friends. While certain events are unavoidable when using social software, we must be aware of the avoidable ones.

Extra lecture to discuss evaluation assignment

Hi all,

As mentioned in class on monday, I have arranged for an extra session to take place during revision week (swotvac) next week so that you have the chance to ask questions about the final evaluation assignment once you have had time to think through what would like to do for it.

The session is booked for tuesday November 2nd, taking place in building 68, room 214 to run from 2pm until 4pm (thanks to Dave H for letting me know about the time missing from here).

Regards,
Stephen.

Project results & final assessment

Hi all,

The results that we uploaded this morning were incorrect due to an error in the .csv file. I'm happy to say that we've now fixed this and the correct results are now online via the http://www.itee.uq.edu.au/~comp3505/results.html link.

To repeat what I said in class, we were impressed with the overall quality of work and the effort you put into the projects. We're onto the home straight now with the final assessment launched this morning. If you weren't in class, I ran through the criteria sheet and answered any questions arising. I also announced that there will be another Q&A session next week during swotvac to allow for more detailed/specific questions to be raised once you have made some progress with thinking about the assessment.

In the meantime, if you have questions that you think may be shared with others, it would be good to raise them as comments/replies to this post. Alternatively, you can as always send email to comp3505@itee.uq.edu.au.

Hi all,

Here's the notification I mentioned this morning about the mobile apps course demos this afternoon. If you don't know about this course, they've been spending this semester developing native applications on various mobile platforms.

Cheers,
